Early estimates of flood damage in and around Pretoria after the recent heavy rains in Gauteng amounts to around R124-million.
The City says in a statement the figure will be updated as inspections and evaluation of the road and stormwater network continues.
Spokesperson, Blessing Manale says the the full extent of the damage is being assessed in seven regions in the City of Tshwane.
He says stormwater not running off road surfaces, and road seals absorbing water, caused potholes to develop on the roads.
Manale says the health and social development department also initiated a surveillance programme, to monitor water-borne diseases and other environmental health hazards which could cause health problems.
