President Jacob Zuma says the time has come for the South African Olympic and Paralympic teams to take the country to greater heights when they represent the country on the global stage.
He was giving the team a final send-off at the presidential guest house in Pretoria on Thursday night.
The Olympic Games take place from the 27th of July to the 12th of August and the Paralympics from the 29th of August to the 9th of September.
Sporting a team SA tracksuit, Zuma said the athletes had to build on South Africa’s past sport successes and improve on their performance at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
Zuma said the team should dedicate the Games to former President Nelson Mandela who turns 94-years old on Wednesday.
Zuma said he was hoping for at least 12 medals at the Olympics.
