Transport Minister, Sindisiwe Chikunga, has launched the Vala Zonke War Room which she said would monitor and manage all pothole repairs in the country.
The ‘war room’, which will be situated at the South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited’s Central Operations Centre in Centurion, was opened on Monday.
“The new War Room facility will have a dedicated team from various clusters to coordinate the government’s ongoing efforts in eradicating the country’s pothole problem,” said Department spokesperson, Collen Msibi.
He said the National Department of Transport launched the national campaign to fix potholes last August, having called for a joint effort from all the provinces and municipalities.
“There have since been several activities across provinces to implement the project,” said spokesperson,” Msibi said.
He said SANRAL was appointed as the coordinating agency to drive the campaign.
Msibi said this included “the harmonisation of all data and information on potholes and providing the technology and technical knowledge to ensure quality delivery on the campaign.”
