The marriage between the Democratic Alliance and Agang SA leader, Mamphela Ramphele, has been short-lived.
On Sunday DA leader, Helen Zille, accused Ramphele of reneging on an earlier agreement that she would stand as the party's presidential candidate in the upcoming election.
Zille issued a statement after a meeting with Ramphele this weekend, saying that she cannot be trusted to see any project through to its conclusion.
Last Tuesday and amid much fanfare, the two leaders publicly announced Ramphele as the DA's presidential candidate.
The DA in the Eastern Cape tweeted that Ramphele's reneging on the deal was a sad day for democracy.
The two parties will hold separate media briefings on Monday.
