Police raid City of Cape Town offices in tender probe

File

Western Cape police have conducted a raid at the offices of the City of Cape Town as part of an investigation into tender fraud in the province's construction sector.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Andre' Traut, said Friday’s raid was carried out by commercial crimes investigators and linked to an ongoing criminal case before the courts.

He remained mum on the details, cautioning against speculating against whom the probe is being directed in the City of Cape Town.

Traut said at this stage no arrests have been made, but said this has not been ruled out.

He said their focus is to present a strong case before the court.

The former Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Malusi Booi, is among several people facing tender fraud charges worth over R1 billion.

The SABC meanwhile reported that the city’s MMC for Safety and Security, JP Smith was the target of the police raid.
