Police minister visits troubled Northern Cape

Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa will visit the Northern Cape on Monday to assess the impact of violent protests in that province.

Protests in the Kuruman area have kept 41 schools closed for the past four months.

Mthethwa is expected to assess the situation and meet provincial authorities.

A report on the situation, compiled by an education task team, will be handed to Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga on Monday.

Last week, Department spokesperson, Panyaza Lesufi, said police needed to stabilise the situation before schools could be re-opened.
