The decision to withdraw the charges against 270 Lonmin mineworkers was announced on Sunday by the deputy director of public prosecutions Nomgcobo Jiba.
He said the charges will be withdrawn provisionally at their next court appearance.
However, Jiba said other provisional charges will remain.
