Police in Mahikeng in the North West Province arrested nine suspects in the midst of planning a cash-in-transit robbery.
National Police Spokesperson Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo said police acted on a tip-off from Crime Intelligence about a group who was gathered at a house where they were planning a heist.
He says while they arrested six suspects inside the house, four more arrived who noticed police and fled.
Naidoo says a high-speed chase ensued and shots were fired, forcing the vehicle to a halt.
Three suspects were arrested while one managed to escape.
The Tactical Response Team recovered six firearms, including an AK-47, handguns and an Uzi with several rounds of ammunition.
Naidoo says they also confiscated four luxury vehicles including a black Jeep, and Audi Q5, a Mercedes ML and a Ford Ranger.
The arrest came as then other alleged cash in transit robbers appeared in the Molopo Magistrates court in Mmabatho to apply for bail.
