Pistorius family relieved that Oscar was granted bail

Murder accused paralympian Oscar Pistorius' family and friends say they are "immensely relieved" after he was granted bail last week.

His uncle, Arnold Pistorius says in a statement this constitutes a moment of relief under the otherwise very grave circumstances.

He says the Pistorius family never imagined they would have to deal with such tragic events.

Arnold says the family had to come to terms with the "sad reality" of Oscar's girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp's death and Oscar's part in it since they were told of the shooting on February 14.

He says Oscar will never be the same - having lost the woman he loved, living with the knowledge that he caused her death, and that he could never undo the pain and loss to Steenkamp's family and friends.

Oscar has been charged with murder after he shot Steenkamp in his home on February 14. In his affidavit, he claims he thought Steenkamp was an intruder.
