Kwazulu Natal police said a group of pensioners queuing for grant payments chased down and apprehended two men who robbed the Lamontville Post Office in Durban.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala, said the incident happened on Wednesday morning when three men entered the Post Office filled with around 200 senior citizens.
She said the gunmen forced the manager and staff to open the safe from which they took two bags containing cash.
"A group of senior citizens gathered and chased the suspects and managed to apprehend two men. Unfortunately, the suspect who was carrying the cash and had a firearm managed to flee the scene," she said.
Gwala said no shots were fired and no injuries were reported.
The suspects, aged 26 and 28, will appear in the Durban Magistrates Court on Friday on charges of business robbery.
