Gauteng police have confirmed the discovery of the bodies of 19 illegal miners.
Provincial spokesperson, Brigadier Brenda Muridili, said Krugersdorp SAPS were called to the scene after the bodies were discovered on Wednesday in one of the active mines in the area.
“Preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased were moved and placed where they were discovered. No foul play is suspected at this stage and post-mortem will determine the cause of death,” Muridili said.
“An inquest docket has been registered for further investigation,” she said.
