A soldier at the Tempe Military Base in Bloemfontein was killed during a training exercise yesterday afternoon.
Police spokesperson, Captain Chaka Marope, says the soldier deployed his parachute after he jumped out of an air force plane, but collided with another parachutist in mid-air.
The accident happened in the Groenvlei area.
Marope says a post mortem will be held to determine whether he broke his neck during the mid-air collision, or when he hit the ground.
