The Western Cape government has confirmed one fatality and two serious injuries in a fire ravaging Betty's Bay, Pringle Bay and Hangklip in the Overstrand Municipality.
James Brent-Styan of the Department of Local Government says one minor injury was also reported overnight.
He says the cause of the fatality is not yet known but police are investigating.
Brent-Styan says the fire broke out in the mountains on New Year's Day, but after being brought under control, it flared up again on Wednesday and raced towards Pringle Bay.
He says they had to evacuate the tiny community and investigations continue.
