Western Cape police have confirmed that a man has been arrested in connection with starting the Betty's Bay fire.
A police spokesperson said that a 34-year-old man was arrested on Thursday morning after a tip-off from the public.
The Overstrand Municipality had also offered a reward of R5000 for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible.
The suspect is due to appear in court in Caledon on Monday.
Meanwhile, the fire is still raging out of control, with three houses now confirmed destroyed while a fire engine has also been destroyed by the blaze.
Authorities also confirmed that a 59-year-old woman from Pringle Bay has died while two others have been seriously injured, but it's not clear if its related to the fire.
Overstrand Fire Chief, Lester Smith, said fire-fighters from Cape Town and Overberg had arrived to assist.
