The state's first witness in the Oscar Pistorius murder trial broke down in tears at the end of a harrowing cross examination by defence counsel, Barry Roux.
Unisa lecturer, Michelle Burger, completed her evidence shortly after 12 o'clock , after taking the stand on Monday morning.
She testified hearing screams and four shots the night that Pistorius shot his model girlfriend of Reeva Steenkamp.
During cross examination, Pistorius' lawyer tried to cast doubt on the credibility of her evidence, saying that her statement to the police several days after the shooting on Valentine's Day did not match her testimony on the witness stand.
Meanwhile, Pistorius' neighbour Estelle van der Merwe took to the stand.
A nervous Van der Merwe told the court that she woke up close to 2am on that morning and she heard sounds like people were involved in a fight. She said it lasted about an hour even though she could not hear what they were saying or what language was being used.
