Oscar to remain behind bars for at least another week

Oscar Pistorius will be remaining behind bars.

This, after the Parole Board at the Kgosi Mampuru prison postponed his new parole hearing to the 15th of this month.

Pistorius has applied to serve out the rest of his five-year jail sentence for shooting his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day in 2013 under house arrest.

This was granted but his early release in August was blocked by the Minister of Justice, Michael Masutha, following representations to him by a woman's lobby.

The Parole Review Board then referred his matter back to the Parole Board at Kgosi Mampuru prison.

The session, held on Friday 9 October 2015 at Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre, and attended by offender Pistorius and his lawyer, was informed that the parole board is consulting with the family of the victim. It is expected that the Steenkamp family will make a submission on the possible placement of Oscar Pistorius under community corrections, early next week.
