Kohler Barnard to appear at disciplinary hearing

Former DA shadow minister for police Dianne Kohler Barnard is expected to appear at a DA disciplinary hearing on Friday morning, charged with sharing a controversial social media post.

Kohler Barnard courted controversy last week when she shared a Facebook post from journalist Paul Kirk praising former apartheid president PW Botha.

In the post he declared, "Please come back PW Botha - you were far more honest than any of these ANC rogues, and you provided a far better service to the public".

Kohler Barnard has since apologised for sharing the post.

News24 reports that at a DA protest outside Chancellor House on Thursday, DA leader Mmusi Maimane said Kohler Barnard would be given the chance at the disciplinary hearing to plead her case to the party's top brass.

Meanwhile, a political analyst believes the best thing for the DA would be to fire Kohler-Barnard.

In a DA reshuffle recently, she was removed from her position and is now the deputy shadow minister of Public Works.

Protas Madlala says the issue will hang over the DA's head for years to come if it isn't dealt with properly:

"She is going to continue as an albatross, a liability to the party" he said.
