Orlando Pirates football player, Thembinkosi Lorch has been found guilty of assaulting his girlfriend.
He was convicted on charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
He was arrested in Midrand in 2020 and was later released on R2000 bail.
NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane says the assault happened at Lorch's house in Midrand on the 6th of September 2020.
She says Fundiswa Nokuphiwa Mathithibala was visiting her then-boyfriend Lorch when he left the house to go visit a friend.
Mjonondwane says when it became late Mathithibala messaged him to return the car keys.
She says when he finally arrived at home an argument ensued and Lorch became violent towards her strangling her and beating her whilst pulling her up and down.
Mathithibala called for help and Lorch's friend came to her rescue.
The NPA said during the trial Lorch and his friend did not make a good impression in court and were not credible witnesses.
Mjonondwana said furthermore, the medical evidence corroborated the testimony of the complainant.
The matter was postponed until the 28th of July for sentencing proceedings.
