The national department of Trade and Industry has issued a strict warning to online interactive casino-type gambling operators, who operate without a licence.
Department spokesperson, Sidwell Medupe says unlicensed online gambling will not be legalised and the National Gambling Board will deal harshly with any unlicensed operators.
"We have made it publicly clear there is no intention on the part of Government to propose the legalisation of online gambling in South Africa. Any person offering or operating such a business is committing an offence under the law. The National Gambling Board, together with law enforcement agencies, will act on these illegal activities" he said
Perpetrators who are operating without licenses need to obtain their licenses from the provincial licensing authority.
Individuals who are participating illegally can be fined up to R10 million and/or 10 years in jail.
