The Hawks in North West have shut down a hydroponic dagga lab in Brits, seizing over 500 kilograms of cannabis valued at around 3-million rand.
Hawks spokesperson, Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi, says the suspects allegedly also sells franchises for cannabis dispensaries and is a major supplier of cannabis and related products in the country.
He says their investigation aims to clamp down on the unlawful mushrooming of Cannabis dispensaries around the country which are purporting to be operating legally in terms of the Traditional Health Practitioners Act.
Mulaudzi says the suspect will appear in the Brits Magistrate’s court on Monday.
Earlier this month SAPS issued a stern warning to the public that the establishment of illegal dispensaries/outlets, online sites and social media platforms which are marketing and selling cannabis and cannabis-related products to the public remains illegal, except where specifically allowed in terms of the Medicines and Related Substances Act.
