The National Union of Metalworkers of SA has gone to court to try and have Cosatu general-secretary, Zwelinzima Vavi's suspension overturned.
In papers filed in the High Court in Johannesburg on Thursday, Numsa called Vavi's suspension "unconstitutional and unprecedented".
The Food and Allied Workers' Union and the SA Football Players' Union are listed as co-applicants in Numsa's court action.
According to the papers, the application will be heard on September 10.
Vavi was suspended three weeks ago for bringing the Cosatu into disrepute, after he admitted to having an affair with an employee.
