Police in the Northern Cape have welcomed the life sentence handed down on a father who raped his daughter.
He was sentenced in the Port Noloth Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
Police said in a statement that they received a complaint in April 2020 that a 14-year-old girl had been raped and sexually assaulted by her biological father from the age of nine.
He was arrested on 4 April last year and remained in custody for the duration of the trial after police successfully opposed his bail application.
The father’s name will also be recorded in the National Register of Sexual Offenders.
