The National Consumer Commission has urged consumers in possession of the 125ml L'Oréal Dark and Lovely Precise Diamond Straight and Shine relaxer to immediately discontinue the use of the product and return it to the point of sale for a full refund.
The manufacturer informed the Commission of the recall following 22 complaints from consumers.
Acting Consumer Commissioner, Thezi Mabuza says the manufacturer, L'Oréal, informed the Commission of a voluntary recall.
“We understand that an isolated incident in the production led to an imbalance of the active raw material, affecting one batch only," says Mabuza.
"Using the recalled product may increase hair breakage and scalp irritation,” she said.
The product was distributed nationally and exported to neighboring countries including Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, Eswatini, Zambia, and Madagascar.
The Consumer Protection Act requires that manufacturers and producers supply goods and products of good quality and free of defects.
"The Commission is monitoring the recall based on its Recall Guidelines”, Mabuza said.
