A North West man is under police guard in hospital after allegedly killing his two-year-old daughter, stabbing the child multiple times.
Police said the drama unfolded in the early hours of Monday morning when the man allegedly woke up screaming at his wife that they were under attack.
Spokesperson, Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, said the man then assaulted his wife who fled the house at Bleskop Mine Club Residences with their six-year-old son.
He said the father locked himself inside the house with the little girl and began damaging household furniture.
Mokgwabone said the "apparently mentally unstable" man was eventually arrested by members of the Tactical Response Team who handed him over to paramedics to be sedated.
He said afterwards police found the child's body inside the house "with multiple stab wounds."
The father is due to appear in court soon on a charge of murder.
