A 48-year-old Warrant Officer is expected to appear in court soon for the alleged murder of his 44-year-old estranged wife and her male companion.
North West Police spokesperson, Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, said the incident took place on Tuesday afternoon at Sandvlakte in Zeerust.
He said the off-duty officer from Nietverdiend SAPS went to a house in Sandvlakte where he allegedly fired several shots, killing his estranged wife, who was also a police officer, and a 30-year-old man.
"Subsequent to the incident, the suspect surrendered himself to the police, and the firearm that was allegedly used during the commission of the crime was confiscated," Mokgwabone said.
He said the motive for the incident is unknown at this stage and investigations into the matter are underway.
Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Sello Kwena condemned the incident and further urged employees to use the services of the Employee Health and Wellness and other professionals, rather than resorting to violence.
