President Cyril Ramaphosa has accepted the withdrawal of three people who were nominated to receive a National Order reward on Friday.
The Presidency says in a brief statement that they received objections from various sectors of society and on the recommendation of the National Orders Advisory Council, the names of Broadcast Veteran Freek Robinson, South African-born explorer Micheal Horn and poet, screenwriter and journalist Duma Ndlovu's nominations for the Order of Ikhamanga have been withdrawn.
The Council said in future they will adopt measures to strengthen the selection process.
No details about the complaints were shared.
National Orders are the highest awards that our country bestows on its citizens and eminent foreign nationals who have contributed towards the advancement of democracy and have made a significant impact on improving the lives of South Africans.
