South African doctor Cyril Karabus will not be returning home on Tuesday as was hoped.
His lawyer, Michael Bagraim, says he has not yet received his passport despite the United Arab Emirates clearing him to travel.
He says his lawyers in UAE will attempt to obtain his passport.
The 78-year-old pediatric oncologist has been detained in the UAE since August 18 last year, after being sentenced in absentia for the death of a Yemeni girl he treated for leukemia in 2002.
He was acquitted on March 21, but not allowed to leave the country pending the appeal, which the UAE subsequently lost.
