President Cyril Ramaphosa says there is no reason for him to step down amid the investigation into the theft of money from his game farm in Limpopo.
There have been growing calls for the president to step aside, pending the investigation into allegations of the kidnapping and bribery of suspects, following the theft of a large amount of foreign currency from his farm.
He told reporters in Cape Town on Friday that if he would step aside there could be a suspicion that he would interfere with the law enforcement agencies.
He added that he wanted the police to investigate whatever crime was committed without fear or favor.
"Because they will not be able to do their work on an independent basis and it destroys their own confidence because they will forever be fearing they may not follow investigations properly because someone [Ramaphosa] is involved", he said.
Earlier on, MPs from the Economic Freedom Fighters were violently removed from Parliament after refusing to allow Ramaphosa to address the National Assembly.
