No end in sight for violent strike

A truck driver believed to be in his late forties is in a serious condition after being shot while driving along the N3 north Cato Ridge in KwaZulu-Natal late on Tuesday night.
After being shot, the driver managed to drive himself about 10 km to the Camperdown Police Station to get help.

ER24's Derrick Banks says the man had a gun shot wound to the leg and had lost a lot of blood.
Paramedics suspect that he also has internal injuries.

In another incident, a truck was hi-jacked on the N2 highway between Albertinia and Riversdale in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The 44 year old driver of the truck, who was traveling from Cape Town to George, stopped next to the highway to rest.
Four men approached him on foot and broke one of the windows of the truck and climbed into the vehicle.

One of the suspects drove the truck on the N2 highway and stopped near the Conville off-ramp.
The suspects and victim got out of the truck which was then set alight.

Meanwhile, a Cape Town truck driver is fighting for his life after protesters set him alight in Manenberg.
An unidentified doctor is quoted by the Cape Times as saying the driver is in a critical condition.
He was apparently attacked, after which petrol was poured over him and he was set alight.

The 62-year-old driver also suffered brain damage due to a lack of oxygen.

Violence has marred the nation-wide truck-drivers' strike which is now in its third week.
