No Ebola virus threat for South Africa

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases says there are no cases of Ebola in South Africa.

The Institute's Lucille Blumberg says there is no Ebola in the country and the chance of an outbreak in South Africa is very small.

More than 700 people have been killed by the deadly Ebola virus in West Africa in recent weeks, with the worst recorded outbreak in history centered in Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Liberia.

Blumberg says the virus is not easily transmitted and people traveling to areas affected would not contract the virus unless they came into direct contact with an individual infected. She stressed that it was not an airborne disease.
