The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says its considering laying charges against the driver transporting the giraffe that died in Gauteng on Thursday.
Tshwane SPCA managing director Rick Allan says they're investigating and considering laying charges in terms of the Animal Protection Act.
He said the NSPCA was also looking into the manner in which the animal was transported - which they did not believe to be correct.
The giraffe was killed when its head struck an overhead bridge while it was being transported on the back of a truck on the N1 in Centurion.
