No decision yet on commission of inquiry into problems at Safa

President Jacob Zuma has not taken a decision to establish a commission of inquiry into the alleged problems in South African football.

Presidential spokesperson, Mac Maharaj says the matter is still being looked into, and such consideration will take into account the relevant legal framework and protocols governing domestic and international football.

Global football body, Fifa distanced itself from an inquiry into the SAFA's finances and internal affairs on Thursday.

This emerged from a letter to Safa president, Kirsten Nematandani and Sport Minister, Fikile Mbalula from Fifa secretary-general, Jerome Val-ke.

Valke said he had not agreed for the South African government to set up an inquiry into anything other than match fixing. This related to friendly matches prior to the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

He said any issues aside from the global body's report into alleged corruption ahead of the World Cup, should be dealt with by Safa, and not government as this would violate the principles contained in Fifa's statutes.
