Nkandla report back in the spotlight

Police Minister Nathi Nhleko is back before parliament's ad-hoc committee to answer additional questions on his report on Nkandla.

Nhleko and the Minister of Public Works, Thulas Nxesi, were called back following an inspection in loco by the Committee last week.

The committee was established to look into the police minister's report on whether or not President Zuma should repay any money for  non-security upgrades at his  Kwa Zulu Natal homestead.

Nhleko says the unfinished work at the presidents home is due to an investigation into the spending....

"A number of reports have eluded to the question of work that needs completion. The issue is that there are a number of investigative reports that have dealth with this particular matter. All of them have concluded and come to this particular point about the need to complete outstanding work" he said.

DA leader, Mmusi Maimane, honed in on the so-called fire pool which the Minister's report deemed to be a necessary security feature.

He said the aesthetics of the surroundings of the pool suggests otherwise.

"It was fascinating that it was nicely tiled, paved, with an entertainment area. It overseas above nice parking. It flows naturally into the property. To me the aesthetics of the issue suggest that the original intention was for it to be a swimming pool" he said.
