A 24-year-old woman is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrates' Court on Monday after her newborn baby was found dead in a municipal garbage bin in Cato Manor.
KwaZulu Natal police received information about concealment of birth at a block of flats on Saturday and went to investigate.
The baby, who was wrapped in a blue shirt, was discovered by a member of the community.
According to police, they found an umbilical cord inside a bucket in one of the flats and subsequently learned that the baby was strangled.
