The state in the Oscar Pistorius murder trial is expected to bring an application on Tuesday to have the paralympian admitted for psychiatric evaluation.
This followed the evidence of defence witness, psychiatrist Dr Meryll Vorster.
She told the court that she diagnosed Pistorius as having a generalised anxiety disorder which could have impacted on his decisions and the way he reacted to the situation he found himself in on Valentine's Day last year when he shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
Nel said her diagnoses and subsequent evidence left the court with no choice but to refer him for psychiatric observation in terms of certains sections of the Criminal Procedures Act.
Pistorius' legal counsel, Barry Roux, says he will oppose the state's application.
