Afriforum satisfied with election results

The civil rights group, Afriforum, says its satisfied that the election results are a true and fair reflection of the will of the voters who took part in the 2014 elections.

However, the organisation's Statistical Researcher, Mike Atkins, says several discrepancies were picked by their election observer team.

He says in one voting district in the Western Cape, the ANC's number of votes seemed to be inflated, while in the Northern Cape, the EFF and DA's votes had been swapped.

Atkins also says problems were reported in 68 voting districts to the Independent Electoral Commission but he adds that the discrepancies are minimal compared to the actual total number of voting districts.

He told Algoa FM News it was clear from the election outcome that it will take opposition parties a long time to finally break one party dominance in most of the country, adding that an active and vibrant civil society remains crucial.
