New national police commissioner, General Mangwashi Ria Phiyega, says the fight against crime will be intensified.
In her first public address since being appointed this week by President Jacob Zuma, Phiyega declined to go into what her strategies will be because she still needs to meet police top brass.
However, she said the SA Police Service will work towards achieving targets and priorities set for the current financial year, including the fight against corruption.
General Phiyega says the police will continue to focus on the ten point plan of the police ministry, which includes the transformation of the SAPS into a professional service, ensuring smarter policing and effective building of SAPS infrastructure.
"I am looking forward to be wearing the blue uniform it will be challenging, it will not be an easy journey but I do believe that it shall be a wonderful journey, a journey that is full of learning's, it will be a muscle toning journey and I am looking forward to it" Phiyega said.
