The department of correctional services says convicted killer Clive Derby-Lewis's condition remains unchanged.
Department spokesperson, Manelisi Wolela says an application for medical parole will go ahead this week.
Last week, Derby-Lewis's wife Gaye said he had been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer.
Derby-Lewis and Janusz Walus were convicted of killing SA Communist Party secretary-general, Chris Hani.
Hani was shot dead in the driveway of his home in April 1993.
Derby-Lewis, who was sentenced to 25 years behind bars, has already served more than 20 years of his sentence.
The 78-year-old has previously been denied medical parole.
