The man accused of killing six sex workers in 2022 in the Johannesburg CBD will be back in court on Monday for his trial to start.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says the case was set down for the State and the accused to enter a plea agreement, but the negotiations were unsuccessful.

Sifiso Mkhwanazi is accused of raping and killing six sex workers between April and October 2022 before dumping their bodies in different locations in the CBD.

NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane says all six bodies were dumped at the premises of a panel beating business in Rossettenville.

She says one of the caretakers discovered the first body in an unused office and alerted the owner, who happened to be Mkhwanazi's father.

The father called SAPS to the scene, which led to the discovery of five more bodies.

The accused admitted to killing the females, using an arm choke, and defeating or obstructing the administration of justice by concealing their bodies at different locations.

Mkhwanazi further denied raping the women and said the sex was consensual, with the agreement of money for sex.

He told the State that he killed the women because they demanded more money for sex.

The NPA says he said it triggered emotions of anger as he spent 10 months in prison when a sex worker accused him of rape, but later withdrew the allegations.

The State was unhappy with the plea deal negotiations and will proceed with a trial.

The first witness is expected to take the stand on Monday.
