Johannesburg - Fast food chain Nando's has accepted a "food challenge" put to it by insurance company Santam, a spokesperson said on Thursday.
"We have done it already; we didn't want to disappoint," Nando's marketing director Quentin Cronje said.
They delivered the food order to the Johannesburg Children's Home on Wednesday and would do so again on Thursday.
"We will be doing it every month for the next 12 months."
Spoof vs spoof
Earlier in April Nando's, known for its humorous advertising, released a spoof of a Santam television advert featuring British actor Ben Kingsley.
In the Santam advert Kingsley stands at a bar, while the waiter behind him comes and goes, with a subtle change in his clothing each time.
In the Nando's spoof a local actor addresses viewers in the same manner, while Nando's meals on the counter undergo obvious changes.
On Tuesday the insurance company replied with a new advert challenging Nando's to deliver a large order of food and drinks to the Children's Home by 16:00 on Thursday.
The list of food consists of 62 orders of lemon and herb half-chicken and chips with coleslaw, 12 kids' meals with chips and toys, 74 hot sticky toffee puddings, 74 assorted cold drinks, and a Portuguese salad.
'Good taste'
Cronje said Santam's response was in incredibly good taste and it was amazing that two South African brands could work together.
"We might even be doing a little response back to them," Cronje said.
"We might even be working on it as we speak."
