My calls to SAPS go unanswered- DA

The Democratic Alliance says a large percentage of police station numbers either ring unanswered or are incorrectly listed.

DA researcher, Gareth van Onselen, told Beeld newspaper that 35 percent of the calls he made to one thousand 116 police stations country-wide, went unanswered.

Van Onselen, who conducted the research in his private capacity, says the numbers he dialled were listed on the SAPS website.

He said that in order for a call to be classified as unanswered, the telephone had to ring at least 15 times.

National police spokesperson, brigadier Lindela Mashigo, said they would comment once they had studied Van Onselen's information and made their own calls.
