A murder suspect who is believed to have poisoned himself is currently under police guard at a hospital in Kwazulu Natal.
Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo says the 22-year-old man allegedly murdered his 36-year-old girlfriend in Soweto. last week before locking up his flat and fleeing.
He says police received information about a possible murder scene in a flat in Jabulani on the 2nd of September and went to investigate.
Colonel Masondo says police broke open the door of the flat and discovered the body of a woman with a stab wound to her upper body.
He says further investigations led them to a hospital in Kwazulu Natal where the suspect was arrested.
He will appear in court on a charge of murder as soon as he is discharged from hospital.
The name of the victim has not yet been released.
