Motorists driving diesel vehicles to feel the pain again

File

South African motorists with diesel-powered vehicles should brace for another steep price hike next week.

The Department of Minerals and Energy announced on Friday that the price of both grades of diesel will increase by R1.42 and R1.43 per litre.

Petrol goes up by 51 cents a litre next Wednesday while paraffin goes up 77 cents a litre at the wholesale level and R1.03 at the retail level.

However, LP Gas will decrease by 98 cents per kilogram

"The reason for the fuel price adjustments are the higher oil prices and the weaker Rand versus the US Dollar which led to high prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin," said Department spokesperson, Robert Maake said.

He said LP Gas prices will come down as a result of the lower prices of propane and butane during the period under review.

"The slate levy also decreased by 13.14 cents a litre in the price structures for both petrol and diesel," Maake said.
