Motlanthe visits Metro housing projects

Deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe, will visit several housing projects in Nelson Mandela Bay today.

He is in the Metro as part of government's anti-poverty programme.

Yesterday, upon his arrival in the city, the deputy president was a guest of honour at the unveiling of the Eastern Cape government's rebranding and marketing campaign dubbed, Home of the Legends.

Government has denied that a nuclear committee was restructured to remove Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe.

Acting government spokesperson, Phumla Williams says government has noted misleading allegations by the Mail & Guardian on the restructuring of the National Nuclear Energy Executive Co-ordinating Committee, and dismisses the statements as devoid of truth.

According to the report, President Jacob Zuma "quietly" replaced Motlanthe and took over as the body's chairperson.

Williams said the Committee was set up in 2008 to lead, monitor, and ensure oversight of implementation of the country’s nuclear energy policy.

It had been restructured to improve effectiveness, and in April, Cabinet approved further restructuring, with the support of the Nuclear Energy Technical Committee, which was chaired by Zuma.
