The Police Ministry says it remains deeply concerned about the safety of officers as the toll of SAPS killed has risen to 33 since January 2023.
SAPS said despite the start of the new year being marred by attacks on both on and off-duty officers, it continues to intensify its responses to criminality in a bid to keep communities safe.
Police management commented on Saturday after another officer who was killed in the line of duty was laid to rest in Kwazulu Natal
The Police Minister, Bheki Cele attended the funeral service of Warrant Officer Gama Cele of the Hawks who died in a shootout with a cash-in-transit gang on 2 January.
He was one of three officers to be killed in 2024.
