A four-year-old Limpopo child has died after choking on a Marula fruit.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, said the incident happened in Kauletsi village on Thursday.
He said little Phologo Machaba was among a group of friends playing when she ingested the fruit.
Parents urged to be vigilant
"Regrettably, the fruit became lodged in her throat and caused her to choke. Despite being rushed to Witpoort hospital for medical attention, doctors declared her dead upon arrival," he said.
Ledwaba said police have opened an inquest docked into the case.
Limpopo police management appealed to the public to be vigilant about the children and their whereabouts.
