A mother charged for kidnapping and killing her six-year-old daughter in KwaZulu Natal appeared in court on Wednesday.
The 42-year-old Zimbabwean national, Fungai Nyamadzawo made a brief appearance before the Umhlali Magistrates Court to apply for bail but she will now have to undergo a mental evaluation.
Nyamadzawo was charged with murder, defeating the ends of justice, kidnapping and perjury.
This is after her daughter's body, Alexia was recovered during an extensive search in canefields in Rietvlei, north of Durban.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Jay Naicker said the suspect had reported the alleged kidnapping to police.
She claimed that she had been driving in Glendale Road when she slowed down at a speed bump. According to her, an unknown person snatched the child from the back seat.
Her case was remanded to the 17th of June to make arrangements for her to undergo a mental evaluation.
She remains in custody.
