Health minister, Dr Zweli Mkhize has again appealed to South Africans to adhere to safety measures, after the country recorded 13 285 new Covid-19 infections in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 350 879.

On Saturday, the death toll stood at 4 948 after 144 new deaths were reported.

Mkhize warned last night that some people were letting their guard down and not following Covid-19 measures.

The minister said they observed poor or no social distancing in communities, while face masks were being abandoned or not worn properly and a laxity setting in around frequent hand-washing.

The Eastern Cape has now recorded 60 976 cases with 811 deaths.

Mkhize says nationally, more than 182-thousand 200 people, which translates to 52 percent, have recovered from the virus.
