There's been mixed political reaction to news of the release of disgraced former top cop Jackie Selebi on medical parole.
The Department of Correctional Services said Selebi, who had been jailed for 15 years for corruption, was one of several offendors who qualified for release on medical parole.
Democratic Alliance MP, James Selfe, says given the public's cynicism around the medical parole of Schabir Shaik, the Minister must give us the assurance that the correct procedure has been followed.
"For that reason I think it is incumbent on the government to release full details of Mr Selebi's medical condition and the process that was followed in determening whether or not he is indeed terminally ill, cause there cant be one set of rules for the politically connected and another set of rules for the rest of us" Selfe said.
The Freedom Front Plus described Selebi's release as scandalous while UDM leader Bantu Holomisa said he hoped Selebi had learnt his lesson.
