There was mixed reaction last night to president Jacob Zuma's state of the nation address during which he announced massive infrastructure spending.
The president said 300-billion rand would be allocated to boost industrialisation in the country.
But, the official opposition said Zuma appeared to be out of touch with reality by failing to acknowledge job losses.
DA parliamentary leader, Lindiwe Mazibuko, said the President spun the figures to make it appear as if there had been an improvement in job creation.
The Freedom Front Plus said it welcomed statements on infrastructure spending but said Zuma did not commit to the necessary practical steps that will ensure the successful execution of these projects.
The Black Sash says the President's fledgling plans once again offer hope but no guarantees that the communities targeted will reap lasting benefits.
Trade union federation, Cosatu praised president Zuma for coming back on the "jobs scorecard".
Secretary-general, Zwelinzima Vavi said overall Zuma had his fingers on the right buttons.
He said the president's announcement on the massive infrastructure development plan, aimed at pegging back unemployment, would make a big difference in relation to the target of five million jobs in the next 10 years.
However, Vavi said he was disappointed that the infrastructure development plan was geared more towards ensuring that the government created better conditions for business.
